Derby Shoes for Wide and Square Feet: A Fit Guide
Foot shape matters as much as shoe size. Two people who wear the same numerical size can need very different internal shapes, especially around the toes and forefoot.
What does a wide or square foot need?
A broad forefoot needs enough horizontal room for the toes to sit naturally. Square-shaped feet often benefit from a fuller toe area rather than a last that narrows aggressively toward the front.
Why Derby construction can help
Open lacing lets the quarters adjust more freely over the instep, but lacing cannot compensate for a toe box that is fundamentally too narrow for your forefoot.
The last matters more than the size label
The last determines much of the toe profile, width and volume. LOTS carries Derby designs with different shapes, so customers should not assume the same size will feel identical in every design.
Should you go one size bigger?
Sometimes sizing up creates useful room, particularly if you are between sizes or choosing a narrower-shaped design. It is not a universal fix: excessive length can cause heel movement. Choose the last that suits your foot shape first.
