How to Care for Suede Derby Shoes in Nigerian Weather

Suede gives Derby shoes depth and texture, but it needs different care from smooth leather. In Nigeria, dust, sudden rain and humid conditions can affect the surface, so a simple maintenance routine matters.

Brush away dry dust regularly

Once the shoe is dry, use a suitable suede brush gently to lift loose dust and restore the nap. Regular light maintenance is easier on the material than aggressive cleaning after dirt has built up.

What if suede gets wet?

Blot excess moisture rather than rubbing. Let the shoes dry naturally in a ventilated area and avoid strong direct heat. Paper placed loosely inside can help absorb moisture and support the shape.

Manage humidity and storage

Avoid putting a damp pair immediately into a sealed box or plastic bag for long storage. Let shoes air first, then store them somewhere dry and ventilated. Rotating pairs also gives each shoe time to dry between wears.

Treat stains selectively

Do not use ordinary smooth-leather polish on suede. For marks that brushing does not remove, use a product specifically intended for suede and follow its directions, testing cautiously on a less visible area first.
